Our Summer Course curriculum offers serious ballet students the highest caliber of intensive classical training, augmented by a rich diversity of dance forms necessary to meet the eclectic demands of dance companies today.
Students attend class Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm and Saturdays from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.

Follow us throughout the season as Coppélia is brought to life. There are sets being built, costumes being sewn and it's hard to believe, but the dancers are already learning Balanchine's choreography!

Ballet dancers stay in shape by taking class at least 5 days a week. The last 15-20 minutes of class are dedicated to jumping. This ensures that they maintain their flexibility, balance and strength for performances.

How is it taking class with company members? Watching rehearsals?

PNB Summer Course students get a chance to tell us why it's fun/inspiring to share a building with the Company of PNB.

In George Balanchine's The Nutcracker, Mr. Balanchine uses Act II to introduce Clara and the Prince to foods and flavors from distant lands. Each food is represented through the dancers. This dance represents coffee from Arabia, hence it's name: Arabian Coffee. Ian Falconer's costume design was inspired by the Maurice Sendak version - they both emulate a peacock.

Performed by corps de ballet dancer Cecilia Iliesiu.

Louise Nadeau takes a moment to discuss performing "Emeralds" and working with Violette Verdy, the woman for whom Louise's role was created in 1967.

Kiyon Gaines, a corps dancer for PNB, is choreographing a new work on the company. His work, called "M-Pulse," opens November 6, 2008.
